CONTRACT ROASTING AND WHOLESALE COFFEE
We roast it. You own it.
Contract coffee roasting for cafes and coffee brands who want their own blend, roasted consistently, without giving up control of it.
We roast for cafes, hospitality groups, and coffee brands who want quality roasting without running it themselves.
We don't roast our own label, so we never compete with yours.
WHY WORK WITH US
Most roasters hand you a blend and a price.
We hand you the beans and the room.
You stay in control
It's your blend and your brand. Keep what you pour now or build something new with our head roaster. You own the profile and the recipe.
See as much as you want
Watch us roast your coffee. Learn the profile as we dial it in, or have it all handled by us. Both are fine.
Honest pricing
We pass green beans through at the wholesale price we pay. Our roasting rate is set by volume, so it gets better as you grow.
HOW IT WORKS
From first taste to regular roasting.
The whole transition usually takes four to six weeks, depending on how quickly we land your roast.
01
Build a blend
Start with a blend session at the roastery. We taste a range together and you take beans home to try on your own machine over a couple of weeks.
02
Test it out
Happy with it? We roast a small batch for you to run. We'd suggest swapping it in quietly and seeing if anyone notices, rather than asking outright.
03
Lock it in
When it's right, we lock the profile and agree terms. Switch across at your pace, one blend or one site at a time. You don't have to move everything at once.
04
Weekly roasting
Order by our weekly cutoff and we'll have it ready, roasted to the same spec every time by our head roaster. Collect from the roastery or get it delivered to you.
Book a blend session.
No commitment. Come in, taste, and see how we work.
Don't see a time that works? Get in touch at hello@commonco.nz and we'll see what we can do.
COME AND SEE THE SPACE
We're central, in Orakei, with free parking and the train station close by. Come in, watch your coffee roast, and be part of it.
We're easy to get to, and we want you in here.
Common questions
-
Two things, kept separate and clear. The green coffee, which we pass through at the wholesale price we pay with no markup, and a roasting fee set by your volume. As you grow, the roasting rate improves.
-
Yes.
That's usually where we start, with a blend session at the roastery. We taste a range together, you take beans home to try on your own machine, and we refine from there until it's right. You can also bring your current blend and we'll match or build on it. -
Once your profile is locked in, we roast to the same profiles every time, on a commercial Probat.
Our head roaster oversees every batch. We maintain detailed roast profiles and records for every client -
Nobody. Your roast profiles, volumes, and blend specifications are kept strictly between us.
-
We have a range of options and suppliers depending on what your blend calls for. We'll talk through this when we meet.
-
Yes, at a fixed rate per kg. Or you can collect the roasted beans and handle packaging yourself.
-
That's normal, and it's why we don't ask you to switch everything at once. Start with one blend or one site, run us alongside your current roaster, and move the rest across when you're ready. There's no pressure to leap, and the blend session lets you test us with no commitment first.
-
Coffee loses moisture when it's roasted, so roasted weight is always less than green weight. Expect around 15 to 20 percent loss depending on the bean and how dark it's taken. As a rough guide, 100kg of green becomes about 80 to 85kg roasted. We're upfront about this so there are no surprises when you plan volumes.
-
Once you're up and running we can roast from 12kg per order to start, which leaves room to tweak the blend as you settle in. The blend session and your first test batch come before that, so you're never committing to volume before you're happy with the coffee. Extra sample sessions or small one-off batches can be arranged for a fee.
-
We don't tie you into leased machines you'll never own. If you need equipment, we'll connect you with Silverchef, who break the cost into manageable repayments, and at the end the machine is yours. We'd rather set you up to own your gear than lock you to ours.
